THE TRAGER APPROACH (student-in-training)
The Trager Approach, developed by Dr. Milton Trager (1902-1997), is a form of mind/body integration that invites the receiver to explore: "What could be easier? Lighter? More spacious? Freer?" It is performed clothed and uses no oils or lotions. In tablework, the practitioner invites the receiver through a series of slow, gentle movements such as elongation, soft compression, weighing, rocking and jostling. Off the table, we explore, through images and movement ("Mentastics"), creative and easeful ways the body can move throughout the day, to sustain learning and relaxation between visits. Sessions are offered at the hourly rate for massage, with the understanding that they are an expression of my experience as a student-in-training. I have completed training and the required practice hours for Level 1 and look forward to moving on to Level 2 later this year. I am learning more everyday through both giving and receiving, reading, and coaching sessions. Trager techniques also blend beautifully with Swedish massage if you would like to explore this combination.
Recommended time is 75 minutes.
See video below for a brief demonstration by a Trager practitioner.

SWEDISH RELAXATION & PROBLEM FOCUSED MASSAGE
Swedish massage is performed without clothing with you tucked under a sheet/blanket and typically employs oil/lotion. Techniques include gliding, friction, squeezing/kneading, vibration and various percussive uses of the hands. It is performed at various levels of depth and pressure. Together we will fine-tune the degree of pressure & depth of work that produces the most relief for your body. Sessions can be full body, relaxation-based, or more specific and problem-focused. Gentle assisted stretching may also be used to mobilize stiff joints, increase circulation and lengthen soft tissues.
Bringing a deep background with the structure and function of the body developed through over 20 years of professional yoga teaching also allows me to be able to offer you safe, supportive suggestions of exercises you can perform on your own to facilitate the progress we make together in these sessions.

REIKI
Described by Reiki masters as "spiritually guided life force energy". Employing the gentle healing power of interpersonal presence & attention, the universal life-force (chi, prana, vitality) flowing through our bodies, hearts & minds is unblocked and refreshed. Disruptions in the even flow of our life force can cause all sorts of distress: anxiety/depression, tension, cognitive impairment, insomnia, stagnation, and, left untreated, can lead to a compromised immune system and physical disease. The trained Reiki practitioner offers a channel through which this intelligent, restorative energy flows. Performed by laying hands on, or with the hands hovering over the body, with the receiver fully clothed in a seated or lying down position. Reiki can be added to a massage therapy session or practiced on its own.
$70/hr.

INNER BODY FOCUSING
Inner Body Focusing is a therapeutic dialogue process combining elements of three complementary healing traditions:
Rogerian person-centered psychotherapy, mindfulness meditation, and Focusing
Below is a short demonstration of a Focusing-based conversation, which is similar to the work we will do together.
Inner Body Focusing is a therapeutic dialogue process combining elements of three complementary healing traditions:
Rogerian person-centered psychotherapy, mindfulness meditation, and Focusing
- Pioneering psychologist Carl Rogers (1902-1987) trusted his clients to direct their own psychotherapeutic process, believing that each person was born with an innate tendency towards their own growth and fulfillment, given the support of a safe, unconditionally accepting relationship.
- Mindfulness meditation teaches us to recognize, and rest in, awareness itself. Through meditation we can cultivate a compassionate and clear seeing heart & mind which helps us contain and integrate all our life conditions and experiences and live more harmoniously with ourselves and others.
- Inner Relationship Focusing is grounded in an all-inclusive, supportive awareness known as “Self-in-Presence” and teaches how to relate to everything in us from this awareness. It is a gently, empathically facilitated exploration of the places in ourselves where we feel life has gotten stuck, blocked, confused, we feel overwhelmed - where valuable inner experience and knowing waits to be received, understood, and integrated. Focusing was articulated by Eugene Gendlin, a psychology student of Carl Rogers in the mid 20th century. Through research he found that clients who benefitted most in psychotherapy had a natural ability to “focus” in on unclear, unacknowledged parts of themselves in a way which ultimately enabled the creative, forward moving energy of life to flow once more. He spent the rest of his life refining his articulation of the Focusing process, work his students around the world continue to develop and find creative new applications for today.
